Updates on Manastash Fire, Pitbull Victims (Briefs)

KNDO
  • A fire burning along the Manastash Ridge in Kittitas County is growing. The fire is now more than 700 acres, just south of Shoestring Lake.

About 70 firefighters are now battling the blaze that was sparked by lightning on Monday.

Both the Cle Elum and the Naches Ranger Districts plan to issue area closures near the fire for public and firefighter safety. At this time the public is advised to stay out of the Manastash recreational area. Smoke from the fire can be seen from Cle Elum, Ellensburg and Naches.

There is no containment yet on the fire.

  • Yakima Police and animal control officers continue to search for two pitbull dogs that attacked a Yakima man and a police officer in southeast Yakima.

Capt. Rod Light says they’re also trying to figure out if anyone owned the dogs but he says it won’t be easy.

“The dogs weren’t wearing collars so it’s going to be difficult.”

If the owner could be found, he or she could be held responsible.

The Yakima officer that was bitten is OK and is expected to return to work soon and a 48-year-old man is still hospitalized.

Police killed one dog and shot another. So far however the dog that was shot hasn’t been found and another dog is still on the loose..
