A security guard is ok but shaken today after fighting with a shoplifting suspect in a Union Gap courtroom Thursday. Turns out no one was hurt, but the fight between the defendant, and the guard put dozens in danger. Union Gap acting Police Chief Greg Cobb says the fight started in the courtroom then moved from the courtroom to the women's restroom and back to the courtroom. Within a matter of seconds the security officer's gun was taken and two shots were fired. Amazingly no one was hit when the guard’s pistol fired. Both the guard and the defendant also escaped serious injury. The guard was not a police officer but an employee from a private security firm. Union Gap Mayor Jim Lemon says he's been pushing for better city hall security for years. Today the Judge and the Mayor plan to meet and talk about how to improve safety at Union Gap City Hall and in the courtroom.
