This is fire prevention week 2016. This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Don’t Wait - Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years,” represents the final year of A three-year effort to educate the public about basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety. A Series of educational events are happening with the Yakima fire Department this week. Spokesman Capt. Jeff Pfaff will be talking about a growing fire problem in our region. "Smoking related fires" "Smoking and where people are putting their cigarettes/ cigars our at." Pfaff says there's been a great rise in incidents where residents are putting their smoking materials out in planters or in bark, causing fires that may not present for hours after they extinguished it. The end of the message we will talk quickly about smoke alarms and the, "Don't wait, Check the Date" campaign.
