A car struck a 68-year-old woman while she was walking along Highway 97 a mile south of Union Gap. Washington State Patrol troopers say Maxine Rippy was walking northbound at about 5:30 last night, when she ran into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Yakima man who was not injured. Rippy was taken to a Yakima hospital.
