This is Peace Officers Memorial week and the Yakima Police Department will hold a special event Friday, which is Peace Officers Memorial Day, in front of the police station on south 3rd street. Spokesman Mike Bastinelli says a large wreath will be displayed with the names of 127 officers killed in the line of duty in 2014. "Our honor guard will be posting every 15 minutes." While 127 officers were killed in the line of duty last year this year the number already stands at 44 officers.  In 1962 Then President Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as National Peace Officers Day.
