SEATTLE (AP) — Republican Rep. Dave Reichert says he won't endorse Donald Trump, his party's presidential nominee.

Reichert, who is seeking his sixth term as congressman for Washington's 8th District, told KIRO he's considering voting for Libertarian Gary Johnson in the fall.

The former King County sheriff said both Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton "are flawed." However he said Trump's controversial statements were too much for him to condone. Reichert said "when you insult veterans and others, insult certain ethnicities and certain groups of people...I'm not going to endorse Donald Trump."

Reichert's November opponent is Democrat Tony Ventrella, a former Seattle-area sportscaster. Ventrella dropped out of the race to represent Seattle's eastern suburbs and rural parts of central Washington in July but rebooted his campaign after he finished second in last week's primary election.

Under Washington's top 2 system the top two vote getters advance to the general election, regardless of party.
