Rally Planned to Return Vietnam Vet’s Remains to Washington

Family and friends in central Washington are planning a rally to help bring home the remains of a U.S. Air Force major who was shot down while flying a mission in North Vietnam in 1968.

San D. Francisco, who graduated from Central Washington University, was forced to eject from his F-4 Phantom fighter-bomber. His parachute didn't deploy fully, and he broke both his legs when he landed.

The Daily Record reports that Francisco, who grew up in Kennewick, was hit by friendly fire as he was being captured by enemy forces.

He is one of 40 unaccounted Washingtonians who have been reported missing from the Vietnam War.
A rally and fundraiser is planned for Oct. 18 in Ellensburg.
