TACOMA (AP) — A bus driver for the Puyallup School District has been placed on paid administrative leave while police investigate an altercation involving him and a 15-year-old student.

The News Tribune reports that Puyallup police spokesman Scott Engle says video surveillance of the Tuesday morning incident shows the boy getting in the driver's face, swinging at him and knocking the man's hat off.

The sophomore at Puyallup High School told the newspaper that the incident began after the driver told a group of students to turn down music they had been playing through a portable speaker.

The boy's mother says the driver choked her son at one point, leaving him with marks and bruises.

Engle says the police department will forward their investigation to prosecutors, who will decide whether charges are filed.
