The third annual Pirate Plunder Adventure Race is happening this Saturday with a record number of runners are expected to be involved in this year's race.

Rich Austin with the Yakima Sports Commission says adventure races are becoming more and more popular every year here in Yakima and across the country.

In 2011 there was about a million participants nationwide today it’s about 3.4 million.

More than 1,000 people are expected to be a part of the Pirate Plunder Adventure Race this year.

If you are involved this year, you will be challenged with a four-mile obstacle course with walls up to 12-feet high, a 140-foot long mud pit, a 40-foot water slide and face many other challenges all while running through a blend of fields with tires and other challenges.

Anyone who would like to get involved can sign up at pirateplunderrace.com or just show up at Pirates Landing behind the Yakima K-Mart. The first race starts at 10:00 a.m. if you want to sign up Austin says be there by 8:00 a.m.
