Pike Place Market Set For Expansion

SEATTLE (AP) — The City Council has approved $34 million for an expansion of Seattle's iconic Pike Place Market.

Construction on the project, which totals $73 million, could start as early as May. It will add more selling spaces, 300 underground parking spaces, expanded walking spaces and better access from the city's waterfront once the Alaskan Way Viaduct is torn down.

The Council approved the city's share of the expansion money on Monday. Additional funding will come from the state and private sources.
