Pasco Trying to Save Historic Mural

The city of Pasco is trying to remove and save a century-old mural recently uncovered in the basement of a demolished downtown Pasco building.

Ahmad Qayoumi, Pasco's public works director, says the city is evaluating placing the 8-by-9 foot mural in its new planned police station.

The mural is all that's left of a building demolished as part of a street overpass project.

The Tri-City Herald says the mural features a scene of a cove surrounded by grass, evergreen trees, hills and cliffs. In the distance sits what appears to be a snow-capped volcano.

City manager Dave Zabell says it appears to depict the Columbia River with Mount Hood in the background. He said the artwork is about 100 years old.
