One in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime. This is domestic violence awareness month in the state of Washington and the statistics show women ages 20 to 24 are at the greatest risk of becoming victims of domestic violence. Yakima Police Capt. Jeff Schneider says it's a crime that's taken very seriously given the volatile situations that can arise out of a domestic fight. "Being assaulted on a domestic call is a very high threat for police officers." Schneider says to protect officers every domestic violance call requires two officers to respond. He says says the police department works closely with the YWCA's domestic shelter for women who are left homeless or need to be removed from a domestic situation. Two officers killed in Palm Springs and two wounded in Boston this week were all responding to domestic violence calls.
