I know how the Maytag Repairman feels.  That may be a dated reference for some! For many years the Maytag  company used a “lonely repairman” character to advertise its appliances with the idea that they were so reliable, so durable that they never broke down.

That meant the repairman never got any calls and was thus, the loneliest guy around.  His lack of human contact and resulting personal depression was your assurance of value and long life in the purchase of your washer or dryer.

In my case, my “Mr. Lonely” status is the result of being forced to come off air and hang around the radio station without having a show to host.  To sit at the console, push the buttons for the other guys, answer the phones and yet not be able to speak is weird.

It’s been 12 years since Lance and I first teamed up on KIT and this is the longest job I’ve had in my broadcast career.   While It’s been a great deal of fun, I also believe providing accurate news and information, valuable public service, promoting local charities, and giving listeners a place to vent is important work.  I take pride in the job and the show we do and you have responded in an amazing fashion.  The rating system our industry uses to measure listening audience trends shows the Morning News with Dave & Lance is Yakima’s most popular radio show and has been for more than a decade.  Thanks for that opportunity to inform and entertain you and know that it brings with it a sense of responsibility to continue to excel.

At the same time I feel my 4 years of city council work has been very rewarding and equally important.  We have a great town. I moved here 30 years ago and it is my adopted home.  It means a lot to me to be able to contribute something to its betterment and its future.

So to sit at the crossroads of having to set one job aside in pursuit of the other is certainly frustrating…especially having done both jobs at the same time for the past four years.  But that’s the way the circumstances sit so I plan to make the best of it…and I plan to have some fun along the way.  I won’t be on the radio…but you’ll know I’m here so please keep listening.

As far as the campaign goes, I plan to write more about that in the days to come but I don’t think you need to see a lot of signs or brochures to know who I am and what I’m about …the un-candidate has returned.

Thanks for the support so far…I hope to continue to earn it in the days ahead.
