SEATTLE (AP) -- The National Weather Service says a weekend storm could dump more than a foot of snow in the Cascades, and as much as 30 inches in some areas.

A winter storm watch says the storm is forecast to begin Friday night and continue through Saturday night.

The Seattle Times reports (http://is.gd/4RVCzq ) the heaviest snow is expected at Mount Baker and Mount Rainier. Forecasters say lighter snow might also fall Sunday, and colder weather is expected next week in the Puget Sound area, with low temperatures dropping into the 20s on Monday and Tuesday.

Yakima Valley forecasts call for high temperatures in the 40s, lows in the 20s through the weekend.

OLYMPIA (AP) -- State officials say baby Jesus is missing from the Nativity scene outside the Washington state Capitol.

The Olympian reports (http://is.gd/7rS8z2 ) the sponsor of the Christmas holiday display replaced the figure with a baby doll bought at a thrift store.

Ton Wesselius does not understand why someone would take the Jesus figure from the Nativity display.

The Tumwater resident believes the figure was stolen last weekend. It's the third time since he began building his outdoor display on the Capitol grounds that the Jesus figure was stolen.

Washington State Patrol spokesman Bob Calkins says the case is being treated as a theft, and charges could be brought if someone is identified.

OLYMPIA (AP) -- The Washington Public Disclosure Commission is struggling to find the dollars to keep its informative website up to date with modern technology.

The Olympian reports (http://is.gd/txGUgj ) the state agency that helps the public keep up with campaign finance information was asked by the governor to propose budget cuts just like every other state agency.

But PDC executive director Andrea McNamara Doyle says they really need more money, not less, so they can update their online interface.

She says a cut in state funding will mean they will fall further behind in their ability to college and share information the public wants to know.
