A new library named after former director Richard E. Ostrander is supposed to open its doors Aug. 13.

Employees put the finishing touches on the $1.5 million building Friday, which is located in West Valley near 72 Avenue and Tieton Drive.

The library system shut down the branch on 56 Ave.  to open this one.

"When the economy changed a little, our trustees looked around and said we're paying a lot to lease a building and we could be putting that money to our own building," said Deputy Yakima Library Director Linda McCracken.

Employees say they already have several books on hold for checkout.

An opening ceremony will be held Monday at 9 a.m. It's open to everyone.
