Patricia Jamey is the Block Watch Captain for her neighborhood in the 1200 block of South 9th Avenue in Yakima. Next Tuesday is National Night out in which police are hoping you'll start a block watch program in your neighborhood. Jamey says she and her neighbors know each other like family.
"Everybody watches everybody. We know everyone who comes into the neighborhood. If someone comes in we don't recognize we ask them why they're there and what they're doing."  Jamey says the key is getting to know and trusting your neighbors. She says neighbors in her area have even created a safe house system for kids in case of an emergency. Jamey is encouraging other people to attend the National Night out kickoff party at Franklin Park on Monday to learn more about the Block Watch Program. The party will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
