More smoke in the skies around Yakima is expected this week and next as officials from the Naches Ranger District prepare for prescribed burning operations on the Angel or Canteen underburn projects located 30 miles west of Yakima near State Route 410. Fire management officer Jeff Dimke tells KIT News. "

Earlier this month they were able to burn 80 acres on the Canteen underburn. Dimke says smoke from the prescribed burn may be visible but it shouldn't cause any problems.
The Angel underburn is situated in the Rattlesnake Drainage, near the junction of Forest Service roads 1500 and 1502. The Canteen underburn area is along the ridgetop on Mt. Clemans. Dimke says the weather forecast indicates potential for excellent smoke ventilation which may help to avoid significant smoke impacts to the Yakima Valley and nearby communities.
