The Bellevue, Washington, city attorney's office says the woman who accused Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch of assault in August has been charged with making a false statement to a public servant.

The Bellevue Police Department issued a statement in mid-August saying Lynch was not involved.

The city attorney's office says 31-year-old Jammie Lynn Ficarelli of Everett was charged Thursday in King County District Court. She had alleged that Lynch assaulted her in a Bellevue apartment and damaged her purse on Aug. 10. It wasn't known late Friday whether Ficarelli was represented by a lawyer. She could not immediately be reached by phone for comment.

Bellevue police determined that Lynch was elsewhere at the time in question.

Police say that while the woman did have injuries from that night, two witnesses said the injuries were the result of a fall.

The Seattle Times reports that conviction on the gross misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
