A 38-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were injured by a train early Tuesday afternoon as they walked on a bridge over the Naches River at the north end of Sixth Avenue.

Yakima Police Department officials say witnesses told them that the couple, identified as  Jason Miner and Tabitha Hollowell, attempted to outrun the train to the south as it approached from the north. The train overtook the two, and they were knocked down, sustaining non-life threatening injuries. The accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m.

The victims were conscious when taken to a local hospital.
