An unidentified man was rescued by the Yakima Fire Department after passing out while working on the flagpole at the William O. Douglas Federal Courthouse early Monday afternoon.

Yakima Police closed South Third Street in front of the building for nearly an hour while the rescue took place.

Newstalk KIT has exclusive video of the rescue.

It's not known why the man may have passed out, but he was taken to Yakima Regional Medical Center for treatment of dehydration. The man was using a harness chair to work on the flagpole's ropes, asked another maintenance worker to send up some water, passed out and ended up hanging upside down about 70 feet above street level.

The fire department used a ladder truck in the rescue, saying that the equipment was invaluable in the rescue.
