A Spokane-area lawmaker has introduced legislation aimed at extending the time child victims of sex crimes can bring their predators to justice. House Bill 1352 would allow a child who was sexually abused to prosecute a suspect up until 10 years after the abuse, or the victim’s 30th birthday, whichever is later. Representative Jeff Holy of Cheney, is a former Spokane Police Detective and the prime sponsor of the bill.

He says the current law is confusing with different age groupings under the statute of limitations. The 6th District lawmaker says his bill would make the statute of limitations crystal clear, holding perpetrators accountable, and helping victims to heal. The measure awaits a hearing in the House Public Safety Committee.
