Lawmakers Supposed To Finish Work By Thursday

SEATTLE (AP) — As the Washington Legislature heads into the final week of its special session, few are predicting that lawmakers will finish their work by Thursday.
But they do have lots of deadlines pressuring them to finish their work by the end of June.
The fiscal year ends June 30. If there isn't a budget by then, state government may have to shut down some of its operations and furlough thousands of state workers.
Lawmakers also know the Washington Supreme Court won't let them go home until they've got a plan for fixing the way the state pays for education.
And until the Legislature finishes its work, state agencies and local school districts won't be able to finalize their budgets for the next year.
