For generations we have admonished each other to “not argue in front of the kids” .  That’s been easier said than done for many of us but perhaps we can relax a little bit knowing that to the extent we may have failed, we really haven’t ruined their lives!Researchers at Pennsylvania State University found that children who were exposed to intense family verbal conflict are better equipped to deal with stress later in life. I guess you could call it kid case hardening.

The study looked at arguing couples and tested their levels of cortisol (a hormone that the body produces during stress). The results revealed that participants who had grown up with significant exposure to verbal conflict had less increase in their cortisol levels during strife.
