Homeless people in Yakima will have a new place to camp Today. Today the city will begin moving a homeless encampment on East Chestnut Avenue to the parking lot across from the Yakima Police Department. The Yakima City Council decided on the move on Tuesday night. The nearly 50 people at the temporary camp will be issued notices Today that they have 72 hours to move out of the neighborhood and into the lot near the police department at 3rd Street and East Walnut. Vouchers for housing will be issued to the homeless early next month so the camp across from the police department is only temporary. Portable toilets and washing stations will now be moved to the new lot.
