As fall and winter approaches all the road problems on Highway 12 over White Pass have been repaired after major washouts last winter. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Summer Deery says last December heavy rain washed out the road in three different areas on both sides of the pass. She calls it a catastrophic event. "We had a huge amount of rain in a 24 hour period which cause soil to come down and block culverts." All the work was completed about 2 weeks ago and all lanes are now open for the upcoming fall and winter months. She says it could always happen again but it would take a lot of rain, another big event to cause problems again.
