Wanna know something funny? If you thought --what's funny is funny-- you thought wrong. There are many ways that men and women differ –some of them fabulous, some not so much—but now we can add to the list the way we approach humor.

Research by Stanford University reveals that while men tend to get jokes quicker, women have a great appreciation for a good laugh. The researchers presented an equal group of guys and gals with dozens of single panel "gag" cartoons, and asked them to rate them on a funniness scale.

Brain scans indicated that men tended to assume the cartoons would be funny, while women made no such assumption. Accordingly, the ladies enjoy the humor all the more by not taking it for granted. Another finding was that women tend to respond more to narrative and word play than slapstick .
