As the cost of college continues to skyrocket, more and more Washingtonians are taking advantage of the G.E.T. program. G.E.T., which stands for Guaranteed Education Tuition Program, allows families to prepare for college.

Betty Lochnear,  the executive director of the program, says 155,000 Washington families are currently using  the program.

"The idea," she explains, "is to start as young as you can, save whatever you can. It's guaranteed to grow with tuition and inflation, so that when your child goes to college, you have planned ahead, saved for college, and really saved ahead of those student loans waiting for you."

Just last year the program was in danger of being scrapped. But Lochner says the program is solid today.
