It used to be THE THING to do -- hop in the car and cruise the avenue. Trouble on the Ave resulted in a shutdown a few years back, but now the Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) is hosting four "Cruise the Ave" nights this summer as part of their effort to engage and promote the downtown area. From a D.A.Y news release:  "It is a flashback in time to relive the past," said Joe Mann, owner of Ron’s Coin & Collectibles and DAY board member. "This is a great opportunity to see your neighbors, interact with the public and watch cool cars go by.”

The events are free and open to the public and will take place on the second Saturday of each month this summer. Cruising will go from Sixth Street to Seventh Avenue during the hours of 6-10 p.m. Dates on those four Saturday cruise nights are June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, and Sept. 12.

DAY is a private, nonprofit organization committed to the preservation, development, marketing and promotion of Downtown Yakima through focused efforts to build and maintain public and private partnerships that will foster financial and creative investments in our future while embracing and celebrating our history.
