Former Spokane Parks Spokeswoman Sues City for $1 Million

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A former spokeswoman for Spokane's parks department has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the city, claiming she was wrongfully discharged after receiving treatment for Parkinson's disease.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Nancy Goodspeed filed the $1 million lawsuit Monday against the city and Mayor David Condon.

Goodspeed alleges she was illegally replaced as spokeswoman in May 2015.

Her attorney, Kevin Roberts, says Goodspeed had gone on medical leave in February 2015 to undergo surgery for Parkinson's. He says her doctors cleared her to return to work but the city required her to complete two neurophysical evaluations, which she refused.

The suit says Goodspeed was then "constructively discharged."

A mayor spokesman said the city hadn't yet received the lawsuit Monday, but that the administration doesn't typically comment on pending litigation.
