There's still time to get into Monday's (April 16) YWCA of Yakima Leadership Luncheon, which features keynote guest Margaret Trudeau -- Canada's former first lady and mother of current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The luncheon is from noon to 1:30 at the Yakima Convention Center, 10 N. Eighth St.

Trudeau --  a Vancouver, British Columbia, native -- quickly won over her country when she married former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1971. Free-spirited and 30 years younger than the prime minister, she once famously said, "I want to be more than a rose in my husband's lapel."

But being thrust into the public eye took a toll on the young bride. Over time, she battled mood swings, lost her marriage, lost one of her sons in a skiing accident, and eventually became seriously ill.

Now a social advocate for people with bipolar disorder -- from which she herself suffers -- she's coming to Yakima to share the story of how she has rebuilt her life in hopes of inspiring others. She also hopes her message of resilience will helps tear down the stigmas people with mental health issues often face.
