Hundreds of people are out of thier homes as firefighters battle the Monastery fire that's now more than 53 hundred acres. So far the fire that started Wednesday afternoon has burned 9 homes and 10 outbuildings. The fire is believed to have started along the highway near the Monastery of St. John The Forerunner. When the fire was first spotted the nuns helped to beat back the flames using rakes and water. Highway 97 is open between Toppenish and Goldendale but the DOT is using a pilot car to guide drivers through the fire area. 30 minute delays can be expected. There's no word on when the fire will be contained.
