A fire burning on the Naches Ranger District is keeping firefighters busy as they battle flames that are growing with the help of windy conditions. District officials say the fire started Saturday afternoon 12 miles northwest of Naches in the Rock Creek drainage east of SR 410. The flames were pushed by strong winds Saturday night and the blaze grew to more than 600 acres Sunday morning but not much. Today the fire is estimated at 616 acres Today.  More than 125 firefighters from  the U.S. Forest Service, Washington Department of Natural Resources and Nile –Cliffdell Fire Department are on the fire lines being helped by bull dozers and helicopters.

On Saturday night officials say, in a news release from the Naches Ranger District that "Efforts continued through the night, but the uncharacteristically high winds contributed to rapid fire spread, including depositing airborne burning material out ahead of the main fire front, referred to as “spotting”."


A Level Two evacuation, telling people they need to be prepared to leave has been issued for the area for people residing east of SR 410 from just south of Cliffdell to Forest Road 1701.
An
Incident Management Team is expected to assume command of the fire sometime on Monday.
