Many federal grants are now delayed because of the government shutdown but Rural Community Development Resources (RCDR) in Yakima was able to secure one of the last of the 2013 fiscal year.

The $500,000 grant will be used to create and support 40 jobs for low income Native Americans and Hispanics. The RCDR says they were thrilled to learn about the grant just days before the shutdown.

"We were excited because we were screaming," RCDR President and CEO Luz Gutierrez tells KNDO News. "Because it takes a long time, it's sort of like having a baby you know? You're waiting for it to show and you know it's coming but you're never sure when."

RCDR is accepting applications for loans now and small businesses that employ Hispanics and Native Americans are encouraged to apply.
