Yakima firefighters say a man died in an apartment fire early Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to the Starlighter apartments in the 1300 block of Browne Ave. at about 4:00. When they arrived they found smoke and fire coming from a second story apartment. Firefighters doused the flames and found a man dead near the living room of the apartment.

The victim’s name and age have not been released.

No additional apartments suffered fire damage but the unit below did suffer water and some smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage is limited to the one apartment and it is estimated at about $80,000.
