Yakima city officials are inviting the public to a meeting Thursday to talk about the proposed downtown plaza.

Members of the plaza design team will be in Yakima to meet with a City Council committee to talk about the design process and tour potential plaza locations.

Yakima Economic Development Director Sean Hawkins says that after that session, a public meeting is planned at the Seasons Performance Hall at 6:30 p.m.

We’ll use this opportunity to do a little bit of education of who we’ve hired. Then get a little bit of feedback from the community as we start.

The City Council approved a contract with the Seattle firm of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol to lead the plaza design process and to come up with potential plans for two sites in March.

The sites are the parking lot next to Millennium Plaza on Third Street or a parking lot near Second Street and Sergeant Pendleton Way.

Plaza design concepts for the two sites should be completed later this year.
