It's called the Alley Enhancement Project and it's something that members of the Downtown Association of Yakima will undertake next year. The aim is to transform back alleys to more attractive areas. Association member Joe Mann a downtown property owner says they'll concentrate on 6 to 8 alleys in the downtown area. He says they alleys are area that many people walk through every day. "We want to clean them up. Make them a little bit more safer of a pedestrian pathway for those using them already and create a little uniqueness in the downtown area." Mann says they're thinking of hanging decorative lights, and adding benches and he says they may even hold some events in an alley in downtown in the future. The work is expected to start in the spring of next year.
