The weather is cooling down, the weeds are all killed off at the dog park and it’s time to take that “good boy” for some exercise.  So when you slip that leash onto the collar,  look into your pooch’s eyes and what do you see?  Do you see an expert?  Look again because your dog is an expert -- on you.

• Even without a GPS your hound knows of your whereabouts and your comings and goings. Dogs know when to expect your arrival and they know the sound of your car. With a super nose, dogs can tell if you’ve been to the butcher shop or near other dogs.

• Dogs know who to trust for kindness. Tests on generosity have shown dogs can distinguish generous from stingy people. Dogs can also read your responses and can tell whether or not you don’t like someone because dogs can hear your breathing pattern change, observe your body stiffen slightly, and even smell the subtle pheromones your body emits.

• This may be obvious, but dogs know a little about your passport, too

.  At least they know when you are going on a trip from the physical clues such as a suitcase pulled out, clothes on the bed ready to pack and so on. Dogs are man’s best friend and now you know some of what they know!
