SEATTLE (AP) — Concerned about crime in Washington's largest cities? How about postal worker dog bites?

The Postal Service says Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane rank in the top 30 cities nationwide for dog attacks on postal employees in 2014. Across the country, more than 5,700 postal workers were attacked by dogs last year.

In 2014, Seattle tied for 13th place, with 28 postal worker dog attacks. Tacoma was tied for 29th with 11 and Spokane was tied for 30th with 10 attacks.

The most hazardous place for postal workers was Los Angeles, with 74 dog attacks.

The Postal Service suggests placing your dog in a separate, closed room before opening your front door to a letter carrier. It also says dog owners should remind their children they need to keep the family dog secured for the postal worker.
