Dave’s Diary: Teens Milk the Mileage in Driving Challenge

The challenge is set.  The field of battle made ready. Teams of student drivers, one from Wapato and one from Selah, will face off this Saturday in a contest not for glory and riches but for m.p.g.!  Huh?  That’s right.  M.P.G.  Miles per gallon.   The kids are part the school’s DECCA program and they are using the event as a learning opportunity, especially about marketing and promotion.  Ten drivers will each drive a Toyota Prius donated by Toyota of Yakima.  They’ll motor their way through a five mile course in an attempt to coax the most mileage out of their trip.  Teenage drivers are not often cited for their foot pedal control and efficient driving practices so it should be interesting.  The event starts at 9:00 this Saturday at Toyota of Yakima across the street from Costco.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 miser mileage mavens.
