MOSSYROCK, Wash. (AP) — Two people died after their car veered off Highway 12 and into Mayfield Lake near Mossyrock, Washington.
KOMO-TV reports that troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene in Lewis County at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday.
The 2013 Audi SUV was found fully submerged in the lake.
Both occupants were still inside the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was later identified as 44-year-old Eric Sprague of Olympia. The passenger was identified as 60-year-old Lorraine Sprague of Mossyrock.
A preliminary investigation found that the SUV has headed east on Highway 12 when it veered off the road and plunged into the lake.
Investigators don't know why the driver lost control.
