County Clerk Race Among Surprises As Filing Deadline Passes

The filing period for candidates closed on Friday and longtime Yakima County Clerk Kim Eaton did not file for re-election.

The race for county clerk is now between candidates Steve Driscoll of Yakima, Jose Trevino of Granger and Yakima Municipal Court Clerk Sarah Matheny. The three have filed as Republicans.

Two Democrats have decided to challenge incumbents in the Moxee and Sunnyside areas. Gabriel Munoz of Yakima has filed for the seat held by Sen. Jim Honeyford of Sunnyside. Teodora Martinez-Chavez of Outlook has filed for the seat held by Rep. David Taylor, R-Moxee.

There will be six candidates vying for the Yakima County Sheriff's office after the retirement of Sheriff Ken Irwin in November.
