Like millions of Americans, 4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse is by how police officers are viewed in the current climate in America. The Sunnyside Republican says we need to get back to a time when officers were seen as public servants who are there to protect the people.

"Whether than means more training or more outreach," Newhouse said Wednesday, "we just need to improve the relationship between the public and police."

And Newhouse doesn't think the problems are limited to large cities. He says even small towns and cities are dealing with a breakdown between police officers and the public. Newhouse says he and other lawmakers are searching for answers. He says there needs to be a national conversation about how officers do their job.
