City Settles With Family Involved in Accident

A big financial settlement was approved by the Yakima City Council at its meeting at city hall Tuesday.

The $250,000 settlement is with the family of a man killed by a driver who was involved in a chase with police.

The payment resolves the claim from the family of 29-year-old Pascual Ayala who was killed in 2010 along with his girlfriend, Marina Barajas. In 2013 the city agreed to pay $400,000 to settle a claim from her family.

The fleeing driver responsible for the crash, Shaun Kollman, was sentenced to 51 years in prison.
