The Yakima City Council has put the revitalization of North First Street on the fast track.

The Yakima City Council on Tuesday directed staff to come with the funding plan to complete the $11 million project in the next two years.

Yakima City Manager Tony O'Rourke says, “We have the capacity to issue about $13 million in new debt for capital improvements in the city. Whether its North First, pools. It’s up to the council where they want to spend that money.”

The project will include a major revitalization of North First Street from sidewalk and lighting improvements to curbs and storm gutters. Plus O'Rourke says the city has been concentrating on code violations of businesses along what is considered the entrance to the city of Yakima.

O'Rourke says the city will have a plan for the council to review at its July 1st meeting.
