A 28 year old man from Union Gap was arrested as he was climbing out of the Yakima river early this morning. It started at about 5:30 this morning when a sheriff's deputy tried to stop Cooley in the area of Highway 24 and University Parkway. Cooley was apparently driving a stolen vehicle. He took off and the chase ended near the Greenway when Cooley jumped out of the vehicle and into the Yakima river. Shortly after jumping in the water he started to yell for help. He was able to swim to the shore where he was arrested. He faces charges of eluding officers and driving a stolen vehicle.
