Charter Schools Not Coming to The Valley

If you were hoping to see charter schools come to our area, you are going to have to wait.

The state's Charter School Commission denied two proposals for charter schools in Yakima and Sunnyside on Thursday.

Charter school officials said the Sunnyside plan did not have a solid financial structure and the school proposed for Yakima did not meet proper lower grade-level education standards.

They said they know there is a need for charter schools in the area and want organizers to revise the plan for re-evaluation.
