Berries Fuel Brain Power & Prevent Memory Loss

I am trying to eat healthier, shed some weight, workout more…you know,  relive the New Year’s resolutions from the past 15 years…anyway, I spotted an interesting study about the power of berries!

“Eating berries at least once a week protects the brain from age related memory loss, according to a major Harvard Medical School study. Researchers focuses on the diets and health of 16,000 women and tracked them for more than 20 years.”

Sounds pretty comprehensive…I was wondering if the benefits were significant and if I would have to live the life of a forest creature to eat enough to do me any good…SURPRISE!  Read on! “Mental function tests were regularly administered during the final six years. The astonishing results: Those who ate the most blueberries and strawberries had a slower rate of memory loss than those who ate the least the difference was equal to about two and a half years of aging. Surprisingly, the biggest berry eaters consumed only a single half cup serving of blueberries or two half cup servings of strawberries each week.”

Don’t Let The Bed Bugs Bite For At Least Eight Hours

There are many stores that sell beds and bedding and you hear about them a lot on talk radio. Many of the hosts have endorsement deals including me. Sleep Country USA has provided me with a fantastic Tempur Pedic. I am happy to sing its praises, and as an early riser I need as many hours of good sleep as I can get.

News Flash! Binge Drinking Causes Beer Bellies

You know what “they”  say about starting a weight loss program….talk about it…make it known that you are trying to shed a few so that others can watch your behavior and  help hold you to it…by way of encouragement or humiliation… depending upon the personality of your friends.  So I’m in…let the humiliation begin.  But as I prepare to say good-by to the beer belly, let’s at least acknowledge from whence it came. AskMen.com reports a beer belly comes from binging, not necessarily beer drinking. A study at University College London examined data from 28,594 middle-aged men and women, and found that beer drinkers aren't more likely to have abdominal fat than non-beer drinkers. (Good point…mine is clearly cheeseburger driven.)  People who drink 80 grams of alcohol in a single sitting once a month -- about a six-pack of beer or a bottle of wine -- average a half-inch bigger waistline than people who drink the same amount of alcohol spread over a week.

Incredible Edible Weight Loss Egg

I am about to embark on a weight loss effort…change the diet/lifestyle and work out with the great folks at Achieve Fitness http://achievefitnessyakima.com/ …So I am currently scouting for information about healthier eating and getting more out of the foods I do eat.

I found and article and a joke.  Woman: My husband thinks he’s a chicken…he clucks and scratches and eats corn and bugs. Friend: Why in the world don’t you take him to the doctor? Woman: Cu’z we need the eggs.  Ba-DOOM-pah.

Turns out maybe we really DO need the eggs if we want to lose weight….in fact new research shows you may wind up eating less later if you replace your Wheaties with eggs.

Black Is The New White – 61 Now Middle Age

A U.S. survey indicates 61 seems old or middle-aged to those age 45 and younger, while those older than 61 tend to see it young.  The new poll found that 63 percent of those surveyed said they thought 61 was middle-age, 15 percent said 61 was young, while 22 percent said it was old. The perspective of age depends on what side of 61 one is. Those of us in the vicinity of 61 are only too happy to hear we’re considered middle aged regardless of the reason. In fact, for some of us, that revelation may even be the inspiration to start living in such a healthy manner so as to make it a self fulfilling prophesy.  The day of the dinosaur postponed indefinitely!

Age is just a number, right?  That’s said more often and with more gusto the older you get.  When I was a kid we thought 40 was middle aged…but the times they are a changing.  Now there’s talk that middle age is …are you ready…61!  I like!   And while I wish it had more to do with an expanding healthy life expectancy…it really results from the growing number of folks reporting in from the far side of the calendar.
