TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a child has died in a duplex fire in Tacoma.

Tacoma police say the fire started Wednesday afternoon in the 6400 block of South Tyler Street. Police say witnesses drove by and saw flames shooting out of the duplex.

Police say witnesses knocked on the door and that others were able to safely make it out of the home. Firefighters found the body of a child inside.

Tacoma Fire Department officials say the blaze was extinguished at about 4:30 p.m. and that two units were heavily damaged.

Officials also say one person was taken for a medical evaluation and that seven people were displaced from three damaged units. No other details were given about the child's body found inside.

The fire's cause is under investigation.
