Apartment Fire Sends Woman to Hospital

Yakima firefighters are investigating an apartment fire that sent one woman to the hospital Wednesday evening.

Firefighters responded to a fire on the 1100 block of Hamm Avenue just before 7 p.m. Fire crews were told that there was a woman still inside the apartment. Firefighters quickly found the woman, who was unconscious but she a pulse.

She was taken to the hospital immediately. No word on her condition.

Crews put the fire out within 10 minutes of arriving to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Yakima Fire Department and the Yakima Police Department.

The apartment involved in the fire suffered extensive heat and smoke damage with most of the contents destroyed. Nearby apartments had doors forced to check for fire extension.

Damage is estimated at about $35,000.
