The Yakima Valley Community College Music department presents the Jazz Ensemble Music 142 Concert featuring the YVCC Guitar Ensemble on December 6.

The concert will be directed by James Durkee and will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 in Kendall Hall Auditorium on the YVCC Yakima Campus at 7:00pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Founded in the late 90′s, the YVCC Music 142 Jazz Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Jim Durkee, has performed live Jazz in venues thoughout the Yakima Valley. The group performs vocal and instrumental selections from the 1920′s to the 21st Century to the delight of themselves and their audiences.

Jim Durkee has headed the guitar studies program at YVCC since 1989. Offering such courses as guitar ensemble, applied studies and class guitar, his guitar program is unique in the community college system and his students have been acclaimed the highest honors in national, regional and state competitions. Mr. Durkee also heads the guitar programs at Central Washington University and Walla Walla University. He is a classical recitalist as well as an active jazz soloist and has toured nationally and internationally.
